Why Design

I chose to major in design because I have been obsessed with it since I was about 13. I started playing around with Photoshop and digital art when I was about 12 and I haven’t stopped since. Over time, I learned more about the capabilities of the Adobe Creative Suite and how it can be used professionally. When I first started using Photoshop, I had no idea that there was an entire industry that revolved around the types of things I was making, but as soon as I found out there was, I knew I had to pursue it. Since then, I have independently studied design through books, blogs, following the work of various designers and agencies, and watching talks. What I love most about design is that it is very structured, but also allows for a lot of creativity in both problem solving and aesthetics. I don’t think I would ever be able to do a job that doesn’t allow for creativity. I guess I’m mostly excited about delving deep into the world of typography during this class. I’m excited to learn about the inner-workings of typefaces and all the work that goes into creating an effective one.
