Reflection

I really enjoyed reading the thoughts and advice of last year’s students. In addition to making me very excited to begin this class, it was also really comforting to know that I’m not alone in some of my worries. The thing that resonated most with me was the advice to not compare yourself to others. It’s very easy to begin comparing yourself and doubting your abilities when looking at the designs of your classmates, but after reading the advice from others, I now know that it’s important to remember that we all have different styles, strengths, purposes and aesthetics for our designs. Instead of comparing ourselves to each other, we should try to learn and be inspired from each other. By doing that, we’ll be able to make ourselves better. One of last year’s students stressed the importance of getting to know the other graphic design majors and that also resonated with me. I am so excited to get to know more people who share my passion for design, and see what we can all learn from each other.

  1. The urge to measure our worth and adjust our identities based on how we think we compare to others is a curse, Chloe. You are the only you in the world. That’s special. : )
