Many of the posts by former GRA 437 students reinforce the need to pay attention to detail. Interestingly, the students often focused on details I didn’t think would be highlighted in a typography class, such as the actual words. I’ve always considered my job to be largely visual, and I think this advice will help push me to consider the connection between the content and design. I appreciated this advice because it will help me question my work to ensure that all my decisions have a reason behind them.
Another piece of advice that stood out to me was the comment about making friends with the other students in GRA 437. I think classrooms can easily become domains for degrading comparisons, and I think the idea of working with classmates rather than working against classmates is a powerful one. I really appreciated the advice given by the previous students, and I think it will help me navigate this class more successfully.
