To be honest, I majored in graphic design not really knowing what it entailed. All I knew was that throughout my time in school, nothing held my attention quite as well as art. I couldn’t see myself spending college laboring over pencil drawings or paintings, though. I wanted to create bold, eye-catching images like the ones on the Threadless T-shirts I always used to wear, or on the covers of the CDs I collected. Newhouse’s graphic design program has taken me in a very different direction, but I’m enjoying it nonetheless. I’ve found that I like publication design in particular; it involves a lot of creativity, but I’ve found that having to design around an article reduces a lot of my “blank page anxiety”. GRA 217 was my first experience working on pieces featuring a lot of type, so I’m looking forward to improving the skills I learned there and building upon them more!
I can already tell I’m going to really enjoy your bright spirit in class. Looking forward to getting to know you. :)
